Extra Booster 3: Cavalry of the Black Steel Review 1 Spike Brothers

EDIT: This took forever just forever... Every picture from the Wikia had a White Background which spread to everything typed after the picture... So from now on I'm just gonna download the wikia's pictures and reupload them here.
So for this first Review I'll be going over the new support for Spike Brothers in the Extra Booster including the Japanese Imported promos. I will not be doing all of these reviews on a day by day basis or anything of that sort. They will be spread out somewhat and interspersed with other things that may be fun to see. (Especially interesting rulings on new cards from Booster Set 7 Roar of the Beast King.) Starting now though please click the Read More button to see the reviews.

We will start with the main card in the set for Spike Brothers!
Demonic lord dudley emperor.jpg
Demonic Lord, Dudley Emperor
Flavor Text: Charge! The finishing blow, Avalanche Stampede!

This card is the new Final Turn for Spike Brothers. Once you have Limit Break active if you have Juggernaut Maximum, Highspeed Brakki, or Reckless Express (To be reviewed later) as your Front Row Rear Guard Units you can activate their effects to Soul Blast one and gain 50 Power. Once those units have returned to the deck Attack with Dudley Emperor and call back out Two Juggernaut Maximum and then use their effects once more and get in two more full power attacks. You can get even more attacks in using Sky Diver but that's not necessary and will cost so much hand that if you fail you will inevitably lose. Just don't forget when boosted by a 8k Booster this is 210 when it attacks.

This card brings us a new way to play Spike Brothers and brings them up to snuff with Limit Breakers. In the English Vanguard Meta this card could very well bring Spike Brothers to Tier 1 status.

Well now we have that Reckless Express

Reckless Express

Flavor Text: Its brakes are completely broken.
Now this card you may think why would anyone use this over Highspeed Brakki or Juggernaut Maximum. That is bad thinking at it's highest degree. This card is a great 70 Boost while also having a good use as a Front Row Rear Guard as it can hit 120 unboosted. The only problem is the rarity at Double Rare even in a single box you'll probably only get 1 especially with the new Imports throwing off every ratio. This card even fits into Dudley Emperor's battle plan.

This next card is less good and more meh

Jelly Beans
Flavor Text: It can manipulate its own cells at will. You cannot even distinguish male from female.

ACT【Hand】: [Reveal this card to your opponent, and put it on the bottom of your deck] If you have a «Spike Brothers» vanguard, search your deck for up to one grade 2 or less «Spike Brothers» with "Dudley" in its name, reveal it to your opponent, put it into your hand, and shuffle your deck.
Spike Brothers
Demon

So this card obviously is meant to search the new Dudley Units. But of course With the new build Dudley Dan isn't as useful as he once was. You don't want to be too counterblast intensive when you are trying to use Dudley Emperor. Of course in a more traditional build this card is quite good in ensuring you get your Dudley Dan as early as possible. Though Mecha Trainer can do that for free so eh I guess this card is sort of useless in truth. Of course because it is me I like finding the good in every single card in the game. There just isn't much room for Grade 3's in any build of Spike Brothers as those slots are already taken up by overall more useful units.

Now we have another sexy Succubus to join the team and not be a simple cheerleader.

Dudley Daisy
Flavor Text: It's over once you lose sight of it. Now the ball has gone to her.
AUTO: [Counterblast (1)] If this unit is placed on a rear-guard circle during battle phase and you have a 《Spike Brothers》 vanguard, you may pay the cost. If you do, this unit gets Power +50 during this turn.
Spike Brothers
Succubus

I like this card but also when you read what it does and the means to activate the usefulness plummets. Simply Superior Call this during your battle phase and Counterblast 1 so you can have a 12k Boost or a 12k unboosted swing at the opponent. Personally I would not use this card simply due to Reckless Express having an easier cost for an easier effect. Still in a Dudley build she can be useful but that build requires so much Counterblast that you'd have to have a means of unflipping damage to get maximum effectiveness.

He also happens to carry the name Dudley

Dudley Douglas

Flavor Text: Don't forget. He's also got the name "Dudley".
AUTO: [Counterblast(1)] If this unit is placed onto a rear-guard circle during battle phase and you have a 《Spike Brothers》 vanguard, you may pay the cost. If you do, this unit gets Power +50 during this turn
Spike Brothers
Ogre

A Grade 2 copy of Dudley Daisy and is slightly less terrible due to being able to Intercept. Still Highspeed Brakki is only slightly weaker while also having synergy with Dudley Emperor. I really wouldn't suggest running this when you have better Grade 2's to run.
I'm liking this clan a bit more every card

20120507 fca610.jpeg
Fierce Leader, Zachary
Flavor Text: The Fierce Leader's name is not a fluke.
AUTO 【R】: [Soulblast (1)] When this unit's attack hits a vanguard and you have a 《Spike Brothers》 vanguard, you may pay the cost. If you do, draw a card, and at the start of this battle's close step, return this unit to your deck and shuffle it.
Spike Brothers
Ogre

So like every other Counter Blast 2 on hit to draw this card is great. Of course this one is also completely different. First off it only activates upon hitting the Vanguard and cost only a single Soulblast not to mention it returns to the deck to open up field for Dudley Emperor while simultaneously providing extra hand cards to discard for it. Being a 9k beater isn't that bad either hitting magic numbers with a simple 6k boost. I can see this card causing conflicts for Limit Break users... take the 4th damage for Limit Break and let them draw or block and have Limit Break later than normal. Simply drawing a card for this hitting the vanguard is amazing and this card may have a place in some Dudley Emperor builds that want to use as little actual drawn cards for Dudley Emperor's effect.

Field Driller
Flavor Text: Dig! Dig! Dig! Diiiiiig!!!!
AUTO 【V/R】: When this unit's attack hits a vanguard, if you have at least 4 other 《Spike Brothers》 rear-guards, draw a card.
Spike Brothers
Ogre

Like every single iteration of this effect the power is too low for a Grade 2 to find use anywhere yet alone the requirement is to overextend early if you want this to hit. I personally wouldn't use this card ever due to the above Field Driller, Zachary having the exact same effect but far better with no requirement.

Medical Manager
Flavor Text: It's sparkling? No worries, it's only a sports drink.
AUTO: When this unit is called to a vanguard or rear-guard circle and you have a 《Spike Brothers》 vanguard, you may soul charge(1).
Spike Brothers
Goblin

Alright so I can say this with certainty... this card is great for Spike Brothers it grants the deck extra reach while still being a 70 Boost. First off this makes all your Soulblast costing cards free. Imagine Juggernaut Maximum with 0 Soul... doesn't sound very fun does it. Now play this to boost Juggernaut Maximum... suddenly you have that one Soul you need to launch a full power assault. If I was running Spike brothers I'd happily run 3-4 of these as that extra Soul can go a long way.

20120507 713264.jpeg
Smart Leader, Dark Bringer
Flavor Text: From the moment the game starts, everything goes according to his plan.
AUTO: When a 《Spike Brothers》 rides on this unit, you may call this card to a rear-guard circle.
AUTO 【R】: [Put this unit into your soul] When this unit's attack hits, you may pay the cost. If you do, choose up to 1 《Spike Brothers》 from your hand and call it to a rear-guard circle.
Spike Brothers
Demon

I can't say I don't love that Flavor Text but at the same time Mecha Trainer is just a far better Starter Vanguard especially because this has to hit in order to Superior Call 1 Spike Brothers not from your deck but your Hand which is cool and all but if you aren't calling Fierce Leader, Zachary to hit while your opponent is still at Grade 1 you aren't going to be doing too well. While Mecha Trainer can do the same thing but when you want it to and without using a card from hand. Just stick with Mecha Trainer for best results.

Kungfu Kicker
Stand Trigger
Flavor Text: Squeak!
Spike Brothers
Warbeast

Well tis another Stand Trigger for Spike Brothers but I don't personally think Spike Brothers need it as Draw triggers help keep your hand size up for Dudley Emperor and Critical Triggers help get your opponent to that crucial final turn damage.

As it stands I probably won't do the imported cards at all as I have a lot of interesting things to post and don't want to spend too much time on cards that released as promo's in Japan a very long time ago. So it is still up in the air.
